Abstract: This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the chemistry, production, classification, and application of chemical fertilizers in modern agriculture. Students study the chemical composition and manufacturing processes of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and micronutrient fertilizers, as well as their interactions with soil, plant nutrient uptake, and factors affecting fertilizer efficiency. The course also examines fertilizer application methods, nutrient management strategies, environmental impacts, and sustainable agricultural practices. Recent advances in controlled-release fertilizers, nano-fertilizers, bio-based fertilizers, and precision agriculture are introduced to highlight innovative approaches for improving crop productivity while minimizing environmental impacts.
Description: This course integrates fundamental principles of fertilizer chemistry with modern agricultural practices and sustainable nutrient management. Students are encouraged to evaluate the relationship between fertilizer composition, soil properties, plant nutrition, and crop productivity through case studies and current scientific literature. The course also emphasizes environmental protection, efficient fertilizer use, and emerging technologies such as controlled-release fertilizers, nano-fertilizers, and precision agriculture to support sustainable food production.
