Abstract: This course provides a comprehensive introduction to antibacterial agents, covering their classification, mechanisms of action, spectrum of activity, and clinical and industrial applications. Topics include the major classes of antibacterial compounds, bacterial cell structure and physiology, mechanisms of bacterial resistance, and strategies for overcoming antimicrobial resistance. The course also explores the development of novel antibacterial materials, including nanomaterials, antimicrobial coatings, and drug delivery systems. Emphasis is placed on the rational selection and application of antibacterial agents in medicine, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, food safety, and environmental protection, while addressing current challenges and future trends in antibacterial research.
Description: This course integrates fundamental concepts with recent advances in antibacterial research and applications. Students are encouraged to evaluate current challenges, particularly antimicrobial resistance, and explore innovative approaches for developing next-generation antibacterial agents. Case studies, recent scientific literature, and practical examples are incorporated to strengthen critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The course also highlights the importance of the responsible use of antibacterial agents, biosafety, and ethical considerations in healthcare, pharmaceutical, and environmental applications.
